Behind the Scenes of Photographing a Proposal on the Canon R6

Hey everyone! I’m super excited to share a special proposal shoot I did in Washington, DC. Using the Canon R6, I captured some beautiful and emotional moments. Let’s dive into the behind-the-scenes:

Setting the Scene

I was out in DC, ready to photograph a surprise proposal. The excitement was real, and I couldn’t wait to capture the moment. My main goal was to focus on the couple’s genuine reactions and emotions during this special time.

Directing the Couple

After the big surprise, I guided the couple through various poses to capture their joy and love. We started with simple poses, having them look at the camera and each other to show their happiness. Highlighting the engagement ring was a big part of the shoot, so I directed them to show it off in different ways.

Creating Beautiful Portraits

For the portraits, I wanted a mix of candid moments and directed poses. I focused on close-ups to capture their expressions and interactive poses to highlight their connection. This gave us a nice variety of natural and editorial-style photos.

Adding Movement

Adding some movement to the photos made them feel more alive and fun. I had the couple walk towards me, play around a bit, and just enjoy the moment. These playful interactions resulted in candid shots that really showed their personalities.

Utilizing the Environment

DC has some amazing backdrops, so I made sure to use them to our advantage. I positioned the couple in front of trees and used cool architectural features to frame them. This added some great variety to the shoot.

Final Touches

To wrap up, I made sure to get some classic shots that would be perfect for sharing with family and friends. These included timeless poses and detailed shots, like focusing on the engagement ring and their interactions. These final touches made for a complete and memorable set of photos.

Photographing a proposal is all about capturing the emotion and excitement of the moment. By giving the couple clear instructions and encouraging natural interactions, I was able to create a beautiful and memorable collection of photos.
