If you’re a wedding photographer wondering how to book more weddings with simple follow up, you’re not alone! One of the most critical parts of the booking process happens after the consultation call. Yet, it’s often overlooked by photographers. In this post, I’m going to break down exactly how you can book more weddings simply by mastering the follow-up process after your consultation call.
Why Following Up Matters
Your consultation call is just the beginning of your interaction with potential clients. It’s what happens after that call that can make or break the booking. Following up shows professionalism and helps set you apart in a saturated photography market. One of the first things I do after every consultation call is send a custom proposal within 30 minutes.
Here’s why: It reinforces the connection we just made and allows me to tailor the package options based on what was discussed. When I send the proposal, I also extend a courtesy hold on their wedding date for three days. “This gives clients peace of mind without feeling the pressure of a hard sell,” which is crucial when booking in the wedding industry.
The Right Way to Follow Up
After sending the proposal, I make sure to follow up within 24 hours. But here’s the key—I don’t ask, “Are you ready to book?” Instead, I send a simple email that says, “Just making sure you received the proposal and could access everything.” This is a polite way to stay top of mind without coming off as pushy.
What Happens If They Don’t Book?
If a potential client decides to go in a different direction, don’t lose heart! I send a quick two-question survey to gather valuable feedback. The two questions I ask are:
- Was the decision influenced by personality, pricing, or style?
- What could we have done to improve your experience?
This feedback helps me tweak my approach and ensures I continuously improve my photography booking process. Remember, you won’t book every single client, and that’s okay! Understanding why a client didn’t book helps refine your business strategy.
